Christian Gomez, LPC

Bilingual Psychotherapist

Hello, my name is Christian Gomez and I am a bilingual psychotherapist at Latinx Talk Therapy. I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago as a first-generation college student, receiving my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Latin American and Latino Studies. I obtained my Masters’s degree in Counseling with a Concentration in Clinical Mental Health from National Louis University. During sessions, I use evidence-based practices while also incorporating techniques of various treatment theories, all while being tailored to each client. By doing so, my goal is to not only provide guidance but also create a strong therapeutic relationship, which is key to having a meaningful session. My theoretical approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and includes cognitive restructuring skills; which allows us to change the way we feel by changing the way we think.

As a Latinx individual myself, I understand the stigmas that are associated with mental health in our community and culture. I believe that being culturally competent is essential when connecting with individuals from the Latinx community to achieve the client’s goal. For this reason, my therapy approach is to build a client-therapist relationship in order to better guide the client in understanding and coping with their mental health condition.

Get to Know A Little Bit More About Me

I am the youngest of five, born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago to Mexican immigrant parents. I am a Spanish native speaker and grew up in a strong Latinx community and culture. Growing up in this community, I witnessed firsthand the struggles of dealing with mental health stigmas along with the lack of minority mental health care workers; which is what led me to this field. As a first-generation college student, I decided to enter this field in the hopes of one day breaking the stigmas and providing my community with the tools necessary in reaching a healthy mental state. As part of the Latinx Talk Therapy team, I hope to make a difference in the Latinx community by providing a safe and compassionate environment for clients to reach an understanding of their mental wellbeing.
