About Our Latinx Talk Therapy Team

Ernestina Perez, LCPC

Ernestina Perez, LCPC

ceo & Founder of Latinx Talk Therapy

Hola, my name is Ernestina Perez, and I am the CEO and Founder of Latinx Talk Therapy. I created Latinx Talk Therapy with the intention of providing mental health services to the Latinx community in a space that is culturally competent, bilingual, and non-stigmatizing.

I love and am proud of our Latinx community. My experience immigrating to the United States, being undocumented, learning English as a second language, having a multiple-status family, and overcoming socioeconomic barriers in order to be successful in the United States gave me a personal insight into the needs of our community.

My aim is for Latinx Talk Therapy to be a space that guides members of the Latinx community to thrive and become empowered with the help of therapy. I believe that the key to any personal transformation lies in improving the strength, courage, and willpower of the mind. When you empower your mind, you increase your ability to take on challenges.

Our Latinx Talk Therapy clinical team is passionate and driven to guide and provide you with tools to help you get through your psychological struggles together. Our goal is to help you meet your goals and live a more fulfilling and intentional life.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help the Latinx community overcome mental health obstacles and feel empowered to thrive in the world.

Our Vision

We envision ourselves as Chicago’s specialists in Latinx mental health. Our intention is to help decrease the Latinx mental health disparity gap in treatment and prevalence.

As your Chicago talk therapy clinic, we are ready to help you achieve your mental and emotional goals. Give us a call at (312) 620-7551 today!

Our History

Latinx Talk Therapy began practicing as a clinic in downtown Chicago during the Spring of 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world. As Latinx therapists, we came together to provide mental health services in Spanish and English to individuals who were feeling alone, scared, alienated, grieved, and needed a space for emotional support.

How Therapy Helps Chicago’s Latinx Community

As Chicago’s second-largest racial group—with a population of 820,000 individuals as of 2020—the local Latinx community is quickly growing at a rate of 5% per year. The vast majority of our clients are first-generation and subsequent generations of Latinx, either born in the U.S. or outside of the country.

Most Latinx families live in multigenerational households where parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins may all live under the same roof, and some may only speak Spanish. There can be language barriers between family members, which can make navigating through our English-dominated culture difficult.

Perhaps you’re the first person in your family to seek therapy, and maybe this thought makes you feel uncomfortable or uncertain. Just remember that you’re not alone. We’re here for you, and we understand exactly what you’re going through.

Therapy is not about gossiping or talking negatively about others. It is about overcoming mental conflicts and blocks so you can communicate better, create better self-understanding, and pursue your mental health goals.

A Celebration of Our Identity & Culture

Culturally & Linguistically Competent Mental Health Care in Chicago

Chicago’s Latinx community is diverse, being made up of people from various nations and regions, including Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Central America, and South America. In addition to this diversity, the Latinx community also shares a handful of cultural factors that can make the search for mental health care somewhat difficult or, at the very least, confusing.

Certain barriers the Latinx community faces when it comes to mental health care include:

  • Language barriers
  • Cultural differences
  • Stigma
  • Legal status

If any of the above-mentioned examples ring true for your particular circumstances, then Latinx Talk Therapy is here to help. Our staff of mental health providers is made up of Latinx/Hispanic individuals who understand the cultural difficulties our clients face. We also all speak Spanish, so we can easily communicate with you in the language you’re most comfortable speaking.

At Latinx Talk Therapy, we celebrate our Latinx/Hispanic identity. We work diligently to offer our clients the mental health services they deserve while basing all we do on a shared foundation of cultural identity and evidence-based practices
