General Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is a form of self-care in which a person engages in a confidential conversational exchange with a mental health professional with the intention of developing further self-understanding & awareness of their own thoughts, feelings, behaviors & patterns. The outcome of therapy is empowerment, enhanced mental well-being, & personal growth.

Therapy is a commitment to the self that can be challenging and takes courage due to the vulnerability, shame, emotional pain, & confrontation that arises.

Immigration evaluations are psychosocial assessments that can be helpful to an immigration case that deals with Extreme Hardship Waivers, VAWA, DACA, U-Visas, and T-Visas. These evaluations outline the impact that your immigration experience has had on your mental health.

A closer look at our immigration evaluation services:

  • What is the cost?
    Regular cost (4 weeks) is $800. Expedited cost (1-2 weeks) is $1000. Payment plans accepted.
  • How many appointments?
    Therapists conduct a three hour interview with you. These interviews are broken up into three 1hr meetings once a week. Therapists will take 1 additional week to write a 10-12 page report.
  • How soon will I have my evaluation?
    Evaluations are completed in 4 weeks. Expedited evaluations are completed in 1 to 2 weeks.
  • What happens if I need it as soon as possible?
    Let the Client Care Coordinator know what date you need it and they will set you up with an expedited evaluation.

We offer both virtual therapy and in-person therapy. Virtual sessions are available to anyone in Illinois no matter where you live in the state. Hourly therapy appointments can last anywhere from 50-55 minutes.

At the beginning of therapy, it is important that the therapist and you establish a close and trustworthy relationship that understands your needs and is based on good communication. We recommend meeting once a week for at least 3 months to establish the therapeutic relationship and meet your goals.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is considered short-term therapy and can last 5 to 20 sessions. Psychodynamic therapy is long-term therapy and can last years. 

You and your therapist can discuss how many sessions may be right for you

No. Our virtual therapy sessions are available to anyone living in Illinois — including suburbs and cities like Evanston, Aurora, Naperville, Rockford, and Springfield. You only need to be located in Illinois at the time of your session.

Family therapy helps to identify familial patterns that contribute to behavior problems or mental health issues and helps family members break those habits. Family therapy involves open communication and problem-solving sessions with the family and therapist.

Couples therapy or marriage therapy helps couples work through challenges, understand their relationship better, and develop healthier ways of relating and communicating. Therapists use specific techniques, skills, and interventions to support the couple’s goals.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) regulates a variety of health care and occupational professionals and provides professional licenses to those professionals who are qualified. Mental health licenses include:

  • LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has a master’s in social work (MSW) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice independently to help individuals and families identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems. 
  • LSW is a Licensed Social Worker who has a master’s in social work (MSW) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice under the supervision of an LCSW to help individuals and families identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems. 
  • LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who has a master’s in counseling (MA) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice independently to help individuals and families identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems. 
  • LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has a master’s in counseling (MA) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice under the supervision of an LCPC  to help individuals and families identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems. 
  • LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has a master’s in counseling (MA) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice independently to help families and couples identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems.
  • AMFT is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who has a master’s in counseling (MA) and completed the requirements in Illinois to obtain their professional license and practice under supervision to help families and couples identify and treat personal and interpersonal mental health problems.

Billing FAQs

We accept most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare for clients throughout Illinois. Our client care intake team will verify your benefits before your first session. Call (312) 620-7551 or submit a contact form and we’ll check your coverage for you.

Depending on your insurance, you may have either a copay, coinsurance, or a deductible due. Your portion of the payment is due at the time of service.

The deductible is the amount of money you must pay out of pocket before your insurance will begin paying on your behalf.

Payment is due at the time services are rendered and will be processed using the card on file.

Yes. Insurance coverage applies to both our virtual and in-person sessions. Clients throughout Illinois — not just Chicago — can use their insurance with us. Contact our intake team to verify your specific plan.
