Learn About Me & How I Can Help

Itzel Diaz, LSW

Bilingual Psychotherapist

Hello, my name is Itzel Diaz and I’m a bilingual psychotherapist at Latinx Talk Therapy. I am
a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). As a member of the Latinx community, I have a deep
understanding of the challenges our community faces and I am committed to providing a
safe and supportive space for healing and growth.
I take a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, helping individuals recognize their
resilience and build on their strengths. Together, we work to fill your ‘toolbox’ with skills and
strategies that empower you to navigate challenges and thrive. I recognize that each
individual’s journey is unique and celebrate the diversity of your experiences. Whether you’re
dealing with anxiety or stress, I am here to guide you through these challenges with
compassion and empathy.

You Don’t Have to Face Your Struggles Alone, I Am Here to Help

Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. In our journey, we’ll explore
strategies that honor your unique experiences and cultural values. We will work on creating
a safe space where you can express yourself freely without fear of judgment. Together, we
can build a foundation of resilience and empowerment, allowing you to navigate life’s
challenges.

Get to Know A Little Bit More About Me

I was born in Los Angeles, CA but my family later moved to Bloomington, IN where I was
raised. Both my parents migrated from Puebla, Mexico and they ensured to preserve our
Mexican heritage by teaching my siblings and I the traditions and customs of our culture. I
was raised speaking Spanish and I enjoy using my fluency in my personal and professional

life. I have seen firsthand how language barriers can prevent people from accessing
resources or receiving help which is why I will always make use of my fluency in Spanish.
As a first-generation college student, I began my college career at Indiana University (IU) –
Bloomington in the summer of 2017 by participating in the Groups Scholars Program. Being
a first-generation college student is very exciting but also challenging. Groups helped guide
me and provided me with financial, social and academic support. I will forever be grateful to
the Groups Scholars Program and the amazing community I found in it. In 2022 I obtained
my Bachelors degree in Social Work (BSW) from IU. During my time at IU I worked at Middle
Way House (MWH) specifically serving youth and families who were experiencing domestic
violence, poverty, homelessness, or human trafficking. I continued to work at MWH after
graduating and then decided to pursue my Masters. In 2024 I obtained my Master’s in Social
Work (MSW) with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from IU. I’ve had the opportunity
to work in a school-based setting, youth shelter, domestic violence shelter, and community
mental health where I provided individual/group therapy to youth in English and Spanish.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my dog and going on runs with my partner. I also
love creating art whether that be painting, drawing, stained glass, or sculpting. I particularly
like to create Chicano art. I love expressing myself through art but also through tattoos. My
tattoos have allowed me to express myself and show people who I am.

My Specialties

I have experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults who have
experienced depression, anxiety, stress, and childhood trauma. I aim to empower my clients
to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
