Marilyn Rodriguez, LCSW
Bilingual Psychotherapist
Hello, my name is Marilyn Rodriguez and I’m a bilingual psychotherapist at Latinx Talk Therapy. I am a proud Latina, bridging the gap for access to culturally informed mental health services within the Latinx community. I believe in the power of healing and the importance of being supported while navigating life challenges. My approach embraces empathy, kindness and passion to help you feel safe sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Together we will explore practices such as, trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, to ensure our sessions are centered around your individual needs. I will help you reflect on your experiences, what is causing you problems, and identify coping mechanisms so you can ultimately experience life at your best mental and emotional state. I would be honored to be able to take part in your journey towards finding peace, understanding, and healing.
As a Latina myself, I understand the complexity within our identity. I value the richness in our culture and the importance of being culturally connected to your therapist. When meeting with me language will not be a barrier to our communication. You will not have to choose between English or Spanish we can speak Spanglish.
I envision Latinx communities were we do not ignore generational and systemic traumas that are fueled by white supremacy, racism and oppression. I believe therapy can help the healing of our community. It is through reflection that I will support your journey in releasing what no longer serves you and embrace what you truly desire.
You Don’t Have to Face Your Struggles Alone, I Am Here to Help
I am dedicated to helping individuals transform their lives by gaining clarity, self-esteem, and hope while letting go of self-doubt, self-sabotage, and unhealthy beliefs. I am passionate about making my community a better place by supporting individuals so they can flourish. Throughout my career I worked in diverse mental health settings supporting vulnerable populations. I’ve worked with children, adults and families. Currently, I provide individual and group therapy to unaccompanied youth who migrate to the US; to support acculturation and help them process the grief and loss from their migrant journey. Migrant families hold a close and dear place in my heart. As a Latina, I witnessed my family’s fight to integrate and make the US feel like home. In the past, I supported black and brown families in heavily under resourced communities. When providing crisis intervention with these families, I ensured the practice of trauma-informed care. Additionally, I worked in school settings helping at-risk children and youth in developing positive coping mechanisms to support emotional regulation, and relied on a restorative justice approach. These diverse work environments taught me how difficult it can be to navigate life with lack of adequate care, resources and support. I am grateful for the opportunity to better serve my community by destigmatizing mental health and guiding your healing journey to relieve mental and emotional suffering.

Get to Know A Little Bit More About Me
I am a Mexican-American, daughter of an immigrant, born and raised in the west side of Chicago. I am a native Spanish-speaker. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. I specialized in Children and Families, with a sub-specialization in Migration Studies. As a first-generation college student I value learning opportunities. I took a border immersion trip to explore the intricacies at the US-Mexico border. I took workshops at UNAM in Mexico City to learn the complexity of immigration, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis. I also work as a Mental Health Clinician for unaccompanied youth.
I am a firm believer of practicing what I preach: this therapist also goes to therapy. I am learning self-love and practicing vulnerability. I find much happiness and fulfillment in being able to break barriers within the Latinx community, and support the healing journey of my community.
My Specialties
I work mostly with Latinx children, adolescents, and families addressing transnational trauma, acculturation, migratory grief and loss, and do crisis intervention. I help individuals build their self-esteem, confidence and develop self-love.
