Learn About Me and How I Can Help
Stephanie Vázquez, LCPC
Hello, my name is Stephanie Vázquez, and I am a bilingual psychotherapist at Latinx Talk Therapy. As a Latina, I understand the importance of culturally competent therapy, as well as the battles that the Latinx community faces in society and stigma towards mental health. Therefore, it is crucial for me to understand your culture and diversity factors to have a better sense of who you are as a person in hopes that together we can explore ways in which I can help you reach your therapy goals.
Primarily, I practice using Person-Centered approach. I believe that individuals inherently possess the skills and qualities to succeed in life. However, life happens, and from time to time, we can experience negative emotions that might make us feel stuck. Within this therapy approach, I work collaboratively with my clients, focusing on the relationship, using empathy, warmth, and a non-judgmental approach to help them identify conditions of worth in hopes of achieving your true potential and help you become your best self. I also understand that individuals are different; therefore, to better serve you, I also apply approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness skills to achieve your goals better.
You Don’t Have to Face Your Struggles Alone; I Am Here to Help
Throughout my years of practice, I have seen how different issues and symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress can weigh a person down; and obstruct the individual’s ability to deal with the present moment. I’ve seen firsthand how prolonged anxiety and trauma can impact an individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual state. I have witnessed how past emotional suffering plays a vital role in a person’s ability to work through current issues. Nevertheless, for a person to effectively cope and overcome present obstacles, they must be given a place where they can express past struggles. Together we will create a collaborative relationship, one that will promote healing, and that hopefully will feel safe for you to express yourself. Drawing on a variety of techniques, we can work together on a treatment plan that fits your needs, goals, and values for you to achieve your potential and lead the life that you desire.
Get to Know A Little Bit More About Me
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to the United States in 2016. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Mental Health from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s Degree specialized in Rehabilitation Counseling with a concentration in the psychological impact of chronic illness and disability from the same university. After working and studying for some time at inpatient units in Puerto Rico, I moved to Chicago, IL, where I trained in Complex Trauma. As a native Spanish speaker and coming from a different culture, I immersed myself in identifying the struggles of the Latinx population in the US and how this affects a Latinx individual’s overall mental health. During my time in the US, I have spent my time providing mental health services to ethnic minorities and immigrants and managing programs that are culturally competent and trauma-informed. My main focus is to work with Hispanic/Latinx adolescents and adult individuals. I find it rewarding to help individuals move past their struggles, find healing, and reach their full potential.
I work mostly with individual adults and adolescents struggling with trauma, anxiety, stress management, and depression. I also provide treatment for adjustment to chronic illness, the impact of disability, grief, life transitions, self-esteem enhancement, cultural diversity issues, and acculturation. Additionally, I conduct psychological evaluations that can be helpful to an immigration case that deals with Extreme Hardship Waivers, VAWA, DACA, U-Visas, and T-Visas.
